The driver (SMC1255.SYS) contained in the directory WIN98 is for the 
following SMC Ethernet adapter:

        SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX)
        SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX-PF)

The driver (SMC1255.SYS) conforms to the Network Driver Interface 
Specification NDIS/5, and is used with Microsoft Windows 98,
Windows Millennium, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

***In the following description, we use the SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX)
Adapter as an example. For SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX-PF) adapter, the 
procedure is similar.

(A) Installing the NDIS5 Miniport driver on Microsoft Windows 98
=================================================================
   1. Plug SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX) Adapter into one of the Master PCI
       slots of your PCI platform.
    2. Turn the power ON, then boot from Windows 98.
    3. When Windows 98 prompts with "PCI Ethernet Controller" in
       "New Hardware Found" dialog box, click the "Next" button.
    4. Select "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)"
       form the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the
       "Next" button.
    5. Insert the SMC Driver Diskette in your floppy drive.
    6. Select "Specify a location" and type Path "A:\" in the "Add New 
       Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the "Next" button.
    7. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
    8. Windows 98 will prompt with "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX)"
       in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
    9. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, 
       then Windows 98 will copy the driver from A:\ to the 
       C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and the NETSMC55.INF file from A: to 
       the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.
   10. When Windows prompts with "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX)"
       in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, click the 
       "Finsh" button.
   11. Remove the SMC Driver Diskette from your floppy 
       drive.
   12. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.

       NOTICE!! C:\WINDOWS is the directory where your Windows 98
                O.S. is located.


(B) Configuring the NDIS5 Miniport driver on Microsoft Windows 98
====================================================================

    1. Click the "My Computer" icon in the Main Program Group.
    2. Click the "Control Panel" icon in the My Computer window.
    3. Click the "Network" icon in the Control Panel window.
    4. Select the "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX)"
       item from the "Network" dialog box, then click the "Properties"
       button.
    5. Click the "Advanced" button in the "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX)
       Properties" dialog box.
    6. Select the Line Speed value (Auto,100full,100half,10full,10half)
       for the "Value" item, then click the OK button in the "SMC EZ 
       Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX) Properties" dialog box.
    7. Click the OK button in the "Network" dialog box.
    8. Restart your computer to implement the new configuration.
